Dual PC Streaming Setup
As a disclaimer, this is not for those on a tight budget. It’s always better to get one PC with a faster CPU and GPU if you’re just starting out in streaming. As you might expect, a dual PC setup can easily be twice as expensive.
For those of you looking to make a serious investment in your streaming setup for the best possible performance, here’s how a dual PC stream setup works.
PC #1: The Game's PC
This PC is your central PC and you should approach building it as though you were building a PC just for gaming. It’s pretty straightforward. Just build a PC good enough to comfortably handle the most demanding games you want to play. We have a list of games people have asked us to build PCs for - check it out to get a better idea of what your intended game requires.
PC #2: The Stream's PC
Here’s where it gets a little tricky. This PC’s job is to encode and stream your gameplay, so it’s going to be built differently than your typical gaming PC.
There are 3 major points to recognize about this PC:
- Capture Card: You will need a capture card to record information from your gaming PC. Motherboards do not usually have video input devices on them. A capture card with HDMI and HD support will solve this.
- Less Power: Your streaming PC does not need to be anywhere near as powerful as your gaming PC. It's safe to say 4GB of RAM, a mechanical hard drive, and a low-end motherboard is all you'll need. With an i5 (or equivalent) and 60 fps, you should be set to stream on any of the major platforms.
- Graphics Card is NOT Necessary: The streaming PC will not need high-powered graphic capabilities. You can definitely get by with a CPU and an integrated graphics processor - just enough to output to a monitor.
That being said, you will need a second monitor for a dual PC setup. However, you can settle for a lower-end monitor.
